About the Cherubs in Portuguese Tile
Cherubs, appear often in traditional Portuguese azulejos, carrying with them both divine and earthly symbolism. Adapted from Renaissance and Baroque art, these winged figures were used to express joy, love, and spiritual protection. In tile panels, they dance among floral scrolls, hold garlands, or gaze serenely from the corners of sacred and noble spaces. Their presence blurs the line between the sacred and the ornamental, embodying the Portuguese gift for weaving grace and devotion into everyday life
